Call for Papers: Online Deliberation 2005

Friday, January 21st, 2005

The Second Conference on Online Deliberation: Design, Research, and Practice / DIAC 2005, will be held at Stanford University from Friday through Sunday, May 20-22, 2005. This conference is a follow-up to “Developing and Using Online Tools for Deliberative Democracy”, a two-day seminar which was held at Carnegie Mellon University in June, 2003. At the end of the CMU conference, participants agreed to have a follow-up meeting at Stanford. We would like to solidify the conference as a regular event, and to discuss the possibility of establishing a new society for online deliberation that will bring together researchers, designers, and practitioners whose work bears on this area. This conference is also the latest in a series of conferences on Directions and Implications of Advanced Computing (DIAC), presented in association with the Public Sphere Project (a CPSR Initiative).

Deme v0.3.1 Release

Friday, October 15th, 2004

Deme v0.3.1 is now released. The update is a minor bug fix that concerns the auto-update feature of some copies of RedHat. The auto-update mechanism on our local copy of Deme broke Pear DB in our PHP installation. As a result, we are now including the necessary Pear DB files with the Deme installation, so Deme no longer requires that an installation of PHP have Pear DB. Download the latest copy of the code.

Deme v0.2.3 Update

Monday, August 23rd, 2004

We’ve just released Deme v0.2.3. Go download it or setup your own groups on our server by signing up in the upper-right corner of our site. This latest release will be a welcome update for users with low resolution monitors. We added toolbars to all the maximized window panes in their own popup windows. We realize that our low resolution users depend on these popup frames (and even our high resolution users enjoy using popups for additional clarity), so now users can access all the toolbar features from within popup frames. Please send us feedback with your suggestions/comments/opinions, or use Deme to contact us by visiting our public groups.
